Here are some current happenings at Kindred facilities across the country.
Peggy Sharpe, CNA
Rehabilitation and Health Center of Gastonia (Gastonia, NC)
Peggy has been named CNA of the Year by the North Carolina Healthcare
Facility Association for District 2. This prestigious award is given
annually to one nursing assistant in each of the four districts that
cover the state. The process starts with a nomination by a peer or supervisor
to the association. The nomination must be accompanied by an in-depth
explanation of why this person should be considered.
It was quite easy to cite several reasons for Peggy's nomination. Her
commitment to her patients and the care she gives is unmatched. She
can always be counted on regardless of the situation. This was demonstrated
by the late fall ice storms we had in the local area. While it would
have been easy for Peggy to call out, she simply called asking for a
ride and came prepared to stay as long as she was needed.
Peggy was up against some very impressive competition. But knowing how
exceptional she is, I felt confident about her chances from the start.
Our DON Debbie Bell, RN, put it best when she said, "Peggy is the
kind of person I would want caring for a family member of mine."
An employee since 1982, Peggy has seen the good times and the bad times.
Whatever may come down the road, we know we'll be fine as long as we
have dedicated staff like Peggy providing the high quality of care we
have come to expect.
Sheila Bieker, MSSW
Harrison Health and Rehabilitation Centre (Corydon, IN)
Sheila has been chosen to receive the 2003 Social Service Director
of the Year Award on April 23 at the Indiana Health Care Association's
awards luncheon in Indianapolis. Following the ceremony, the IHCA and
attendees will go the statehouse to rally on behalf of the patients
we care for everyday.
Sheila has been with Harrison since its opening in 1998. She was nominated
by several of her fellow employees and chosen for her selfless dedication
to the facility and the residents we serve.
Congratulations, Sheila! Your deserve the recognition.

"Super Nurse" Earns Her Wings on Delta Flight
By Diana Jeansonne
Director of Education, Kindred Hospital Brea (CA)
On February 12, while returning to California from training in Louisville,
RN Mahzadeh Nourizadeh provided life-saving medical assistance to a
passenger on Delta Flight 1445.
The passenger had coded, but she lives and breathes today thanks to
Mahzadeh's spunky, confident nursing spirit.
Needless to say, the flight crew were very grateful. As a token of Delta's
appreciation, Mahzadeh received a free round trip ticket to anywhere
Delta flies.
